Limestone & Travertine
Limestone forms extensive, thick, multiple layers within the continental crust of the earth. It is a sedimentary rock containing carbonate minerals mainly of calcite, which recrystallize into a hard and brittle rock. The porous nature of limestone and its softness makes this material a finish widely used in areas with less traffic, such as for bathroom limestone flooring and limestone worktops.
Travertine, a type of limestone formed by mineral springs, often has a fibrous appearance, and, in terms of travertine flooring & travertine worktops, it is typically available in cream, white, tan, rust and silver colours. Travertine as a stronger limestone can take higher traffic areas and when sealed and maintained correctly proves to be beautiful on worktops.
